Little known tablet vendor OPlus has announced the launch of its first smartphone in the Indian market. Dubbed as OPlus XonPhone 5, the smartphone has been priced at INR 7,999 and will exclusively retail at Snapdeal.com
According to OPlus, the smartphone features a 5-inch 720p HD IPS display, 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, Android 4.4.2, and 2000 mAh battery. The phone also comes with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, 8MP rear camera with LED flash, and dual-SIM support. In addition, the company has included 2MP front shooter, 3G support, and the usual connectivity options. The phone will be released in Silver, Gold and Black colour options.
“We are extremely elated to be launching the XonPhone 5, an innovative smartphone with ultimate features ensuring a unique user experience. Our association with India’s largest marketplace, Snapdeal.com, has yielded us great results for our tablet and we are affirmative that our smartphone will also witness great acceptance from the users,” said Soumitra Gupta, CEO, Oplus.
While the specifications are great for the pricing, it is the branding factor that will be a problem for the company. With little to no visibility in the market, the phone is unlikely to threaten the current budget favourites like Asus Zenfone 4, Moto E or even the upcoming Redmi 1S.
